Dr. Joan Mbetwa

Dr. Mbetwa-Kasonde Joan is a dedicated Consultant Obstetrician-Gynaecologist with over a decade of experience in public service and medical education. Dr. Mbetwa-Kasonde is actively involved in training programs for Emergency Maternal Obstetric and Neonatal Care (EMONC), family planning, comprehensive abortion care, and cervical cancer screening and treatment. She is known for her mentorship in sexual and reproductive health, particularly focusing on female infertility.

Her career began with rigorous academic training, including a MMED in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from Copperbelt University, MBChB from the University of Zambia, and BSC HB from the University of Zambia. Dr. Mbetwa-Kasonde's professional journey includes significant roles such as Consultant Obstetrician-Gynaecologist at Marybegg Health Services since October 2022, where she manages complex obstetric and gynaecological cases with a focus on evidence-based practices. Previously, she served as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Ndola District Health Office, Ministry of Health, where she provided specialist patient care and led initiatives to improve maternal health outcomes.

Her experience also includes roles as a Registrar and Senior Resident Medical Officer at Ndola Teaching Hospital, where she gained expertise in managing obstetric emergencies, conducting surgical procedures, and mentoring junior medical staff. Dr. Mbetwa-Kasonde is recognized for her leadership in maternal health and her contributions to clinical research aimed at enhancing patient care standards.

Beyond her clinical and academic pursuits, Dr. Mbetwa-Kasonde is known for her organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal abilities. She is committed to ensuring efficient healthcare delivery and is actively involved in professional associations such as the Health Professions Council of Zambia and Zambia Medical Association.
